Le Corbusier

Le Corbusier

Originally an architect in Switzerland, Le Corbusier complete his first building, a house, at the age of 18.  He continued to work as an architect following his move to Paris, teaming up with fellow architect Auguste Pierret, who pioneered techniques for the use of concrete and steel.  Following his work in Paris, Le Corbusier moved to Berlin, to learn about about industrial processes and machine design from Peter Behrens.  He later returned to Paris and continued to work with various artists and architects, including Amedee Osenfant, with whom he developed the new concept of Purism.

Le Corbusier brought the concepts of architecture, industrialism, and modernism to the home.  His furniture designs, like his architecture are efficient and austere, yet modern and extraordinarily streamlined.
