CastiglioniBorn in Milan in 1913 and 1918 respectively, the Castiglioni brothers studied at Milan Polytechnic
Before joining forces to create some of the most influential art and décor pieces of the 20thcentury, including the Mezzadro tractor seat, and the Sella telephone stool. The brothers were particularly successful in designing lighting, using technical innovation and minimalism to create aesthetically pleasing, yet functional designs. Examples of their lighting system include the Taraxacum and Splugen Brau hanging lamps, most famously, the Arco lamp in 1962. The brothers went on to teach design and interior decoration at Milan Polytechnic and Turin Polytechnic.
